Biography
Carla Ferreira is a postdoctoral researcher at Stockholm University, since 2020. She works on different land degradation problems, focusing on the impact of anthropogenic activities on soil properties and water resources, and the use of nature-based solutions to mitigate the impacts.
She has a European doctoral degree in Environmental Science and Engineering, since 2015. She has worked as a researcher for the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, Portugal, and Swansea University, UK. She is the Research Area Leader of Center for Natural Resources, Environment and Society (CERNAS) for Environment and Society. She develops research for the Navarino Environmental Observatory (NEO). She has been working on several national and international research projects, working on land degradation driven by urbanization, intensive agriculture management practices and wildfires.
She has been actively involved in the editorial board of international scientific journals, in the organization of national and international scientific events, and in the Management Committee of the COST Action Land4Flood – Natural flood retention on private land (CA16209). She is the main editor of the book entitled “Nature-Based Solutions for Flood Mitigation: Environmental and Socio-Economic Aspects”, currently in print by Springer Nature.
